Moby Dick had, “Call me Ishmael,” A Tale of Two Cities had, “It was a the best of times, it was the worst of times,” and Twilight had, “Something, something, glittery guy with great hair who watches you sleep (I haven’t really read Twilight in awhile).” Everything great has a beginning. There is always that first step, item one on the checklist, and when editing in Lightroom there is no better place to start than A Beginning…

This group of presets is that guy you used to flirt with to do your homework. All you have to do is give him a little attention, and he takes care of all those boring tasks that you need to do before you really dive into editing a photo. The Auto Family allows you to break free from Lightroom’s all or nothing auto setting by allowing you to have an auto setting for individual aspects of a photo.
That moment when he pops open that little ring box and you see something shiny inside. It is that old subway train that you know has been circling the city since the 70s. It is gritty, has torn seats, and more character than you ever thought possible. Concrete Jungle captures that moody, inner city feel with its increased highlight contrast, created at the expense of opening the shadows.
Be warned! This dramatic, high key black and white preset will only work if you hum the Jaws theme while using it.
This is the Hans Zimmer and John Williams of black and white presets. It takes your already great landscapes and ethereal portraits and turns them into something epic.
Clouds of smoke hover over an old wooden bar; the men are wearing trench coats and fedoras, while the women put off a sultry air as they command the room. This moody black and white captures all of the mystery and drama of film noir. This is Night man, “feeling so wrong and right, man.”
It’s that friend of yours who looks like he is serving 25 to life, but really just loves kittens and the Bachelor. Despite its name this conversion is a straightforward preset that delivers a classic black and white look.
