Getting The Orange Out In Lightroom

January 27 2011

Contrast and saturation are usually your friends, but not when it comes to natural-looking skintones.  Fortunately, there’s an easy way in Lightroom to dial back skintones to a more natural color when they get out of whack.  Follow along with this short video tutorial to learn how!

Not the video type? Here’s the quick step-by-step:

  1. In the Develop Module, head down to the HSL panel.
  2. In the Saturation section, click the little bullseye icon in the top left.
  3. Click on an area of skin in the image and down to decrease saturation (up to increase).  You’ll notice that some sliders are automatically moving in the Saturation setting, probably for Orange, and a tiny bit for some others perhaps).

This technique allows you to quickly target areas that are over or under saturated and correct them to exactly the level you want.
